Moulton discusses federal grants received by Sixth District and package of legislation he supports in Congress to combat opioid addiction

Congressman Seth Moulton on Thursday announced more than $677,000 in two federal grants to two community health centers on the front lines of the opioid epidemic crisis, something Moulton said should be treated as a health crisis in America. North Shore Community Health Center received $352,083 and Lynn Community Health Center got $325,000 to expand treatment services for those addicted to opioids on the North Shore and Cape Ann amid an "unprecedented demand" for addiction treatment services.

LYNN — Community health centers are on the front lines for battling opioid addiction, an issue that has become a public health crisis.

On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton said the Lynn Community Health Center received a $325,000 grant to expand narcotics dependence treatment services. The Massachusetts Democrat delivered the good news at Salem’s North Shore Community Center, which received $352,083. The center also has locations in Gloucester and Peabody.

Salem, MA - Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) returned from a week-long congressional delegation trip to the Middle East. The delegation travelled to Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, and Spain to oversee U.S. efforts to destroy ISIS, discuss regional security threats with top military leaders, and meet with U.S. service members overseas.

When US Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton visited Iraq last week, he encountered a familiar sight. A veteran who served four tours in Iraq, Moulton joined in the US military effort to stomp out radical insurgents. Last week, the Salem Democrat stopped by Iraq to talk to current US armed forces. Their mission was the same — to free Iraqis from terrorism, this time against the Islamic State group.

LYNN — American troops will rotate indefinitely through Iraq unless the U.S. can offer “democratic mentorship” to stabilize the Iraqi government, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton said Tuesday.

Making his comments during a Daily Item interview following a week-long Mideast trip with other members of Congress, Moulton said the fight against Islamic state in Iraq “is going well.” But he said long-term success rests on U.S. assistance in providing Iraq with political stability.
