SALEM — School leaders have new allies in the fight to improve the district and pull it out of its state-assigned Level 4 status.

Officials from Salem Public Schools, along with Congressman Seth Moulton, came together with the Massachusetts Service Alliance, United Way and AmeriCorps Monday morning to launch a partnership that will bring service volunteers to help the city's English language learning (ELL) school population.

Thanks to governmental agencies and private donors veterans have been able to turn their lives around. They're now living at Bedford Green, a community of 69 apartment homes at the Bedford VA's Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Medical Center. The furnished one-bedroom apartments offer permanent, supportive housing for homeless veterans and those at-risk of homelessness, 55 years and older.

Middlesex Community College, in efforts led by Mount Wachusett Community College, and in partnership with Northern Essex, and North Shore community colleges, recently received a four-year, $4 million federal TechHire grant to provide workforce training in advanced manufacturing in Worcester, Middlesex and Essex counties.

The 2014 Digital Accountability and Transparency Act standardizes a governmentwide data structure to track federal spending, and the Searchable Legislation Act, introduced July 13 by Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), would similarly standardize an electronically searchable format for federal legislation and congressional records.\

House Democrats on Thursday unveiled their new national security agenda, which will include gun control legislation and other domestic reforms…Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., said the agenda will also include ‘common sense gun reform,’ including the ‘no fly, no buy’ provision that prohibits those on the no-fly list from buying firearms.

WASHINGTON — Bay State U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton blasted House Speaker Paul Ryan for not bringing gun control measures to a vote before lawmakers break today for a seven-week summer recess.

“What’s he going to say if there is another mass shooting between now and the end of recess?” Moulton told the Herald yesterday. “That’s worse than not doing his job, he’s totally shirking his responsibility to the American people.”

Next week, the United States Congress is launching its second annual Congressional App Challenge. The competition is open to all high school students, even those without coding experience, in an effort to encourage students to learn to code by creating their own applications.
