LYNN — On the 15th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, a National Day of Service, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) will name the winner of the inaugural Peter J. Gomes Service Award.

The ceremony will take place on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Lynn English High School auditorium and will be followed by a Day of Service, in coordination with local nonprofits and AmeriCorps and City Year members.

The banning of the export of live American lobsters to the 28-nation EU would be a bitter and expensive pill to swallow for U.S. live lobster exporters. The issue also has caught the attention of elected officials in Maine and Massachusetts, including Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, Congressman Seth Moulton and other members of the congressional delegations for the two New England states.

LOWELL -- Middlesex Community College has received a $444,581 federal grant to boost technology that will offer greater insight into student success.

The Department of Education funding will establish the eMCC: Success from the Start program, which will improve the school's technology infrastructure and analytical data on enrollment, student planning and advising, according to the offices of Reps. Niki Tsongas and Seth Moulton.

SALEM, Mass. - In Salem, as many cities across the state and country, overdoses related to opioids are on the rise as leaders try to combat the epidemic.

In Salem, Massachusetts there have been 110 overdoses and 10 deaths so far this year, that’s compared to 11 deaths total in 2015.

Combating opioid abuse is a year-round issue, but on Aug. 31 it gets special attention for International Overdose Awareness Day.

LYNN — GE Aviation and its labor union struck an agreement on Tuesday that will lead to more hiring at the plant.

“It was a tough negotiation, but in the end we came to an agreement that protects the current members, benefits the community and ensures that GE will be here in the future,” said Peter Capano, city councilor and president of IUE-CWA Local 201.

Salem, MA - On Thursday, the Office of Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce¹s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $1.4 million dollar grant to Endicott College and North Shore InnoVentures in Beverly. This investment will create nearly 350 new jobs in the district and significantly expand the region¹s biotech industry, while spurring private investment in the life sciences sector.

BEVERLY — A $1.4 million grant to Endicott College — the largest federal grant the small private college said it has ever received — will spur construction of a new life science and business incubator center on campus that will be run through a partnership with North Shore InnoVentures, a Beverly-based biotech and cleantech incubator.

Some Republicans may still be in denial about the reality of climate change. (Donald Trump has even termed it "a hoax invented by the Chinese.") Fortunately our governor is not one of them.

The vast majority of scientists accept the fact that the burning of fossil fuels has resulted in the warming of the atmosphere, which in turn has brought a slow but dangerous rise in sea levels worldwide.

LYNN -- The Army's Black Hawk and Apache helicopter fleet may soon be powered by engines designed in Lynn, as U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton announced last week that the Army has awarded a two-year contract to GE Aviation.

More than 100 engineers, most of them based at the GE Aviation facility in Lynn, will work on the design of the GE3000 -- a 3,000-shaft horsepower engine that Moulton's office said "will provide advanced turboshaft propulsion capability" for Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.
