WASHINGTON–This week, Congress returns from a committee work period and turns its attention to two major infrastructure bills. The House version of a bill that will be the subject of intense negotiations between lawmakers includes $10 billion in funding for high-speed rail. The bill also singles-out projects that will speed up American trains so they can begin to approach the speed and efficiency of high-speed rail lines in operation around the world.

WASHINGTON — Following the incidents of racial profiling in Danvers and Beverly, Representative Seth Moulton released the following statement: 

“In just about a week, my office has received reports of at least two incidents of racial profiling in the Sixth District. Both incidents were directed at members of our Black community. I shouldn’t have to say this, but let me be perfectly clear: Racism, racial profiling and any form of discrimination have absolutely no place in our community or anywhere else.

WASHINGTON — Today, following the release of the Office of Inspector General report into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and death of veteran Tim White on the campus of the Bedford VA Medical Center, Representative Seth Moulton released the following statement: 

Lynn, Mass. – Today, Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) announced that Lynn Community Health Center was awarded $524,964 through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). 

These funds will be used to directly help vulnerable populations in the city of Lynn. Through this grant, Lynn Community Health Center will be able to provide medication assisted treatment for recently released incarcerated and homeless individuals.

WASHINGTON — The Afghan refugees evacuated and resettled in the United States are facing a new challenge: they’re not eligible for the government benefits America traditionally provides refugees because of the rushed evacuation. Today, Representatives Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Don Bacon (R-NE) introduced the Welcoming Evacuees Coming from Overseas to Mitigate Effects of Displacement Act of 2021, also known as the WELCOMED Act, to fix the problem.

To say that today is anything short of a disaster would be dishonest. Worse, it was avoidable. The time to debate whether we stay in Afghanistan has passed, but there is still time to debate how we manage our retreat. For months, I have been calling on the Administration to evacuate our allies immediately—not to wait for paperwork, for shaky agreements with third countries, or for time to make it look more “orderly.”

Salem, Mass. — Today, Representative Seth Moulton announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is awarding the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) with $859.6 million worth of critical funding through the American Rescue Plan. Moulton led a bipartisan effort, with the support of 78 other lawmakers, to include transit relief in the federal response to the pandemic.
