BOSTON - Representative Seth Moulton has invited a 9-year-old Syrian refugee as his guest at President Obama’s final State of the Union address.

Ahmad Alkhalaf lost his arms and three of his siblings were killed when a bomb hit the Syrian refugee camp where he and his family were living. He’s recovering at Boston Children’s Hospital while his family remains in Turkey.

Other members of the state’s all-Democratic delegation have announced guests for Tuesday’s speech.

Ahmad Alkhalaf, a 9-year-old Syrian refugee, lost both of his arms and three of his siblings during an attack on a refugee camp inside Syria where his family was living two years ago.

Tuesday night, he will become the face of the Syrian refugee crisis at the State of the Union address at a time when there is much mistrust of refugees after recent terror attacks.

LOWELL - U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, who recently slammed Gov. Charlie Baker for saying he wasn't interested in accepting Syrian refugees before he learned about the federal government's screening process, is bringing a 9-year-old Syrian refugee to the State of the Union tonight. Ahmad Alkhalaf, who lost both his arms in a regime airstrike while in a Syrian refugee camp, will be Moulton's guest at President Barack Obama's final State of the Union address.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) sent a letter to Undersecretary Kathryn Sullivan at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to voice strong support for the New England Fishery Management Council’s (Council) proposed At Sea Monitoring (ASM) reforms. As costs are expected to shift to the fishing industry, regional House and Senate members committed to improving the science that is used to set ASM coverage rates and safeguarding cost efficiencies.

Congressman Moulton's Strategic Vision

  • ISIS (the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) is a national security threat to the United States and we must have a serious, comprehensive, long-term strategy to defeat ISIS.
  • Underlying this strategy must be a political and diplomatic plan to ensure the peace, so that we don't find ourselves sending troops back to the Middle East yet again after we defeat ISIS militarily; we defeated Al Qaeda in Iraq militarily in 2009, but failed to ensure the success of Iraqi politics, which created a political vacuum ISIS has now filled.
