LYNN -- The Army's Black Hawk and Apache helicopter fleet may soon be powered by engines designed in Lynn, as U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton announced last week that the Army has awarded a two-year contract to GE Aviation.

More than 100 engineers, most of them based at the GE Aviation facility in Lynn, will work on the design of the GE3000 -- a 3,000-shaft horsepower engine that Moulton's office said "will provide advanced turboshaft propulsion capability" for Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.
