ON THE DAY AFTER THE 2016 presidential election, the administration at a Central Massachusetts boarding school suggested a set of talking points for teachers. The school’s population has a large contingent of international students, and many of them were anxious. One teacher, however, had another idea: My brother-in-law, an Iraq War veteran who teaches introductory Spanish, asked his class whether they would prefer to lie on the floor and watch a Disney movie in Spanish. So they did.
The City of Lynn was awarded a $1.2 million MassWorks grant from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (HED) on Monday, as Secretary Jay Ash of HED visited the city to announce the award and discuss the city’s on-going development.

The Democratic Party is in its worst governing position in a generation. Next year we will control just 31 state legislative chambers and 15 governorships. We lost the House of Representatives in 2010, the Senate in 2014, and now the presidency. Clearly the American people are not satisfied with the vision and leadership our party is offering. It’s time to make some serious changes to both.
They talked about the invisible disabilities and the importance of transitioning to life stateside, but perhaps the most important aspect of Friday’s Veterans Day Town Hall is that veterans talked.
Held in Abbot Hall, the Town Hall gathering was the second such event hosted by U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton.
“Last year’s Town Hall was the single most meaningful thing I’ve done as a U.S. Congressman,” Moulton said. “I hope this will be the beginning of a movement.”
MARBLEHEAD — John Katsaros joined the U.S. Army Air Corps with his best friend on Dec. 9, 1941, two days after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
He flew in a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, a four-engine heavy bomber, and was shot down over Frankfurt, Germany as he attacked an aircraft factory. He parachuted from 27,000 feet and was held captive until members of the Resistance helped him escape.
“The most important thing is cherish your freedom,” said Katsaros, 93.
We are nearing the end of one of the most divisive presidential campaigns in recent memory. As more and more Americans begin to turn their attention to what comes after Election Day, many are beginning to wonder: “How can we come together as a nation and move forward? Are we ready? Are we even capable?”
