BEVERLY, Mass. — The Massachusetts man who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge that has raised more than $200 million for ALS research is backing an effort in Congress to help others with the disease.
Pete Frates was joined at his home in Beverly on Saturday by Democratic U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, a sponsor of the bill known as the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act.
The town hall meeting will run from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 in the community room at the Reading Public Library, 64 Middlesex Ave., in Reading.
Moulton hosted a town hall in Gloucester two weeks ago attended by more than 300 people. Hundreds more tuned in via Moulton's Facebook which streamed the town hall live for those who could not attend in person.
The legislation would waive the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) five-month waiting period for people living with ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
AMESBURY — Chamber of Commerce executive director Kassandra Gove has spent the past two weeks letting her members know about a program she feels could prove to be popular with small to mid-sized businesses.
“We are really happy to have been included in this program,” Gove said. “It is a unique opportunity to offer professional development for busy CEOs when programs like this are usually focused on startups.”

Sixth District Congressman Seth Moulton has called on both Democrats and Republicans in Congress to independently investigate reports of the Trump administration’s ties to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
“I’m calling on my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to put our country before politics and support a comprehensive investigation into the ties between the Trump White House and Putin’s Russia,” said Moulton in a prepared statement.
An urgent investigation into whether the Trump administration has compromised the US and UK through its links with Russia has been demanded by a member of the Oversight Committee in the House of Representatives.
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) on Tuesday said that if members of the Trump administration or campaign have been "conspiring" with Russia, "that's the very definition of treason."
National Security Advisor Michael Flynn resigned on Monday after reports surfaced that he had spoken with a top Russian diplomat about the U.S. sanctions against Russia.
