LYNN -- The Army's Black Hawk and Apache helicopter fleet may soon be powered by engines designed in Lynn, as U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton announced last week that the Army has awarded a two-year contract to GE Aviation.
More than 100 engineers, most of them based at the GE Aviation facility in Lynn, will work on the design of the GE3000 -- a 3,000-shaft horsepower engine that Moulton's office said "will provide advanced turboshaft propulsion capability" for Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.

While the amount of the contract for the Improved Turbine Engine Program was not disclosed, the federal investment is expected to support more than 100 engineers, primarily at GE in Lynn.

BURLINGTON - Burlington firefighters are about to get some backup after receiving a federal grant.
The Burlington Fire Department recently announced it was awarded a federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
