Moulton Statement on Tenth Failed Vote for Speaker of the House
Washington, D.C.—Congressman-elect Seth Moulton issued the following statement in reaction to the failure of the House of Representatives to elect a Speaker after three days and ten successive vote attempts.
“This is getting increasingly serious. We are elected to serve the best interests of our constituents. The actions of Republican extremists, who have taken the House hostage, are a slap in the face to every American.
What we need now is a solution from Republicans. Yet despite ten unsuccessful votes, I’ve seen no outreach to Democrats. Now this chaos is causing unnecessary confusion about some of the most fundamental duties of congressional offices, like casework and oversight. My colleagues who claim to be strong on defense are also jeopardizing our national security at home and credibility abroad.
However and whenever this gets resolved, the implications will be long-lasting. We will get back to the business of legislating, but I hope that every American remembers that Republicans would rather play games than govern.”
