Moulton, Norcross, and Walz Introduce Legislation to Boost College Completion

Moulton: “This bill will help provide our children the opportunity to be successful in the modern economy”

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressmen Seth Moulton (D-MA), Donald Norcross (D-NJ), and Tim Walz (D-MN) introduced the Remedial Education Improvement Act, a bill that will help ensure that students complete their higher education in a timely and affordable manner.

"Far too many students are taking on the economic burden of attending college without the skills necessary to complete their degrees,” said Moulton. “This bill will help provide our students with the opportunity to be successful in the modern economy by eliminating barriers that stand in the way of a good education."

Our nation’s current system of remediation in higher education is failing working families due to the increasing cost of college. Further, it is leaving students steeped in debt, and without a meaningful degree. The Remedial Education Improvement Act would provide competitive grants to colleges and universities to develop or improve remedial education programs through the implementation of evidence-based models that have already led to improved academic outcomes for remedial students. It is part of House Democrats’ legislative campaign, Aim Higher, policy solutions to make higher education work for all students and their families.
