Moulton Invites Community to Submit Nominations for the Annual Peter J. Gomes Service Award
Nomination deadline is August 26th, 2022
SALEM, Mass. — Congressman Seth Moulton has issued a call for nominations for the 7th annual Peter J. Gomes Service Award.
Each year, this award recognizes one individual from Massachusetts’ Sixth Congressional District who exemplifies the qualities of integrity, compassion and commitment to community, which were the foundational principles of Moulton’s late mentor, Reverend Peter J. Gomes.
Sixth District residents are invited to submit a nomination by completing this form. The deadline for submissions is 11:59PM ET on Friday, August 26th.
Congressman Moulton will announce the recipient of the 2022 Peter J. Gomes Service Award at an awards ceremony in September. Outstanding nominees will also be honored at the event.
“My friend and mentor, Reverend Gomes, talked a lot about the importance of service,” said Congressman Moulton. “He would always say to me that it wasn’t enough to just believe in service, or support those who serve — I’ve got to go out and do it myself. His words helped me muster the courage to join the Marines, but it also inspired me to do something I never thought I’d do: dedicate my life to service as an elected official. I’m always impressed by the number of people in our community who are so deeply committed to the cause of public service, and I’m honored to keep the legacy and spirit of Rev. Gomes alive again for a seventh year.”
The Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes was a Christian minister who served for nearly forty years in The Memorial Church of Harvard University, a space erected to honor the Harvard public servants who died in World War I. As a preacher, teacher, author, and leader, he influenced many with his ready wit and wisdom and, perhaps above all, with his commitment to service, whether to his immediate community, in support of those in the armed forces, or to universal humanitarian causes.
Moulton will also host a community-wide service project in honor of Rev. Gomes this fall.
Details for both events will be posted on the Congressman’s website, Moulton.house.gov, and on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook in the coming weeks.
