SALISBURY, MA - Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) visited Our Neighbors' Table in Salisbury today to tour the facility, meet with staff and volunteers, and speak about the urgent crisis facing millions of families across the country with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) set to run out of funding on November 1.
Congressman Moulton was joined by the following leaders of nearby local food pantries:
Greg Ezell, Program Director, Our Neighbors' Table
Stacey Verge, Executive Director, Acord Food Pantry
Robyn Burns, Executive Director, Salem Pantry
Allison Caffrey, Executive Director, Beverly Bootstraps
Sarah Grow, Director of Development, Open Door
Jane Merrow, Co-Founder, First Parish Newbury Food Pantry
During his visit, Moulton highlighted the devastating impact that the Trump Administration’s refusal to use emergency contingency reserve to fund SNAP will have on working families, seniors, and veterans in Massachusetts.
"Health care and food are human rights,” said Congressman Moulton during a press conference. "So if Republicans make this cruel decision to deliberately take away food assistance this weekend when the funds are there to pay for it, that shows their priorities."
If SNAP is not funded by the November 1 deadline, more than 42 million Americans are set to lose SNAP benefits. In Massachusetts, more than 600,000 residents rely on the program, including more than 60,000 in the Sixth District.
Congressman Moulton drew a sharp contrast between the Trump Administration’s priorities and the everyday realities of working Americans.
“There are two different Americas today,” he said. “There are the billionaires who buy off this corrupt administration, who Trump is focused on with his dreams of seeing the stock market rise. And then there are working families across America who actually make this nation run, many of whom can’t afford to pay rent, can’t afford to buy a home, can’t afford to send their kids to school, and now they can’t afford to eat.”
