Moulton Calls on Army to Release Full Incident Report on Trump's Illegal Campaign Activity at Arlington Cemetery

September 7, 2024

SALEM, MA – Following Donald Trump's illegal campaign activity at Arlington National Cemetery, Congressman Seth Moulton called on the Department of the Army to release the full incident report filed after the campaign’s visit:

“Arlington National Cemetery, and particularly the section where fallen heroes like those from Abbey Gate are laid to rest, is hallowed ground. It cannot and should not be exploited for shallow political purposes.

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am calling on the Department of the Army to release the full incident report from Trump's campaign visit on Monday, including how the campaign engaged with cemetery staff and the improper photos and videos shot in Section 60.”

Given that the incident reportedly involved a staffer confronting an unnamed Cemetery employee, the release should redact the name of the employee while retaining all other details of the altercation.

The Congressman’s call to release the incident report comes after his earlier statement denouncing Trump’s actions at the event:

"I will always hail the heroes of Abbey Gate. Watching Marines and other servicemembers wade out into a sea of humanity at great personal risk to carry our Afghan allies to freedom made me proud to be an American. Those heroes stood up for our values, and all thirteen servicemen and women who gave their lives that day deserve our solemn gratitude and unending respect.

“Exploiting their graves and their sacrifice to serve as props for a partisan political campaign is not just shameful, but illegal. Trump is proving yet again what we all should already know: He disrespects our veterans; he doesn’t understand why our troops serve; and from dodging the draft to campaigning on grave sites, he has shown he is perfectly willing to break the law for his own gain.

“Let’s not forget it was Donald Trump who struck a deal with the Taliban terrorists in the first place, laying the groundwork for a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and agreeing to free thousands of terrorists with American blood on their hands in the process.

“The behavior of Trump and his team are despicable, un-American, and — unfortunately — not surprising at all.”
