Moulton Announces National Grid Project has Received Department of Energy Funding
SALEM, MA – Congressman Moulton is pleased to announce that National Grid has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to receive funding for its Twin States Clean Energy Link. The project will deliver clean energy from Canada to New England to support our region’s carbon reduction goals and increase the supply of affordable clean energy.
National Grid is one of three projects nationwide to receive this investment as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was passed by Congress in 2021. Over the summer, Congressman Moulton sent a letter of support for the project’s funding application to Secretary Energy Jennifer Granholm.
In addition to importing clean energy, the Twin States project will also enable clean energy producers in New England to export excess capacity to Quebec during times of lower domestic demand. The project is projected to lower costs for customers across New England and steer millions of dollars in dedicated funding to disadvantaged communities throughout the region.
“Investing in renewable energy infrastructure is essential, especially as Massachusetts and the U.S. strive to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. National Grid’s Twin States Clean Energy Link project will create hundreds of good-paying jobs and help bring more affordable, renewable energy to households across the Commonwealth,” said Congressman Moulton. “I'm thrilled that the Department of Energy is awarding Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to help make this project possible. This is an important piece of the puzzle as we explore different ways to transition to a cleaner, greener economy.”
Twin States is part of DOE’s Transmission Facilitation Program, a $2.5 billion revolving fund to help overcome the financial hurdles associated with upgrading and building new, large-scale transmission lines.
