The Salem News: Our View, A Partial Victory for Fishermen

New England fishermen got a piece of good news last week when the federal government agreed to pay for a large portion of the cost of its at-sea monitoring of the actions of the industry fleet. Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton of Salem has suggested more effort be put into developing a cost-effective electronic monitoring system to replace the current model, which requires spreading a limited amount of monitors among a large number of vessels for an undetermined number of trips. It’s a good idea that deserves more attention from NOAA.
