The Salem News, Letter to the Editor: Lucky to have Moulton as Congressman

October 16, 2016
To the editor:

When Seth Moulton ran against my friend John Tierney, I was irritated, in that John was vulnerable because of his wife’s activity for her gambling brother and he was accused of aiding and abetting.

I have great respect for our new congressman, both for his sacrifices and service in our military and just as much for his integrity in Congress, something that is almost non-existent. I didn’t agree with his vote to lift sanctions on Iran to curb its nuclear aspirations, but he had courage to make that vote. The one that really took immense political courage was his vote not to override President Obama’s veto with regard to suing Saudi Arabia for its complicity in the 9/11 attack.

No one can know the heartache of those who lost loved ones on that fateful day, and no money will relieve their pain;  but the override makes every person who represents our government in a foreign land subject to being sued, and even sued for war crimes. That’s what Congressman Moulton understood, and his strength of character to do what is right took precedence over politics.

How lucky we are to have as honest a person as Congressman Moulton representing us in the 6th District and the whole nation, just as he proudly wore his uniform.
