Rowley FD awarded $160K grant

September 26, 2019

ROWLEY — The Fire Department was recently awarded $160,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to pay for 24 sets of breathing apparatus.

The money is part of the roughly $13 million in federal grants disbursed to fire departments across the state through FEMA’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response, Assistance to Firefighter Grants and Fire Prevention & Safety grant programs.

Congressman Seth Moulton, D-Salem, praised the grants in a statement.

“I know what it’s like to go into harm’s way without the right equipment, like in those days in Iraq when we didn’t have the right armor for ourselves or our trucks,” Moulton said. “We should expect better for the firefighters in our community. I’m glad these FEMA grants have come through, and I’ll keep working to make sure firefighters always have the gear and training they need to do their jobs.”

Other grants include: $2.9 million for Quincy to hire 16 firefighters; $1.7 million for Everett to hire eight firefighters; $219,048 to New Ashford for a water tanker truck; and $142,858 to Orange for a brush fire truck.
