Rep. Seth Moulton Joins Call For Police Accountability
TEWKSBURY, MA — Congressman Seth Moulton joined Rep. Ayanna Pressley's resolution to condemn police brutality, Monday. Pressley announced the resolution with three other representatives Friday, following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
A video shows now-former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck and ignoring him as he says he can't breathe. Chauvin was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, a Massachusetts Democrat, introduced the resolution Friday with Reps. Ilhan Omar, Karen Bass and Barbara Lee. Moulton joins a number of other Massachusetts Democrats who have since signed on.
I hear you and I am with you. I’m signing on to @AyannaPressley’s resolution to condemn police brutality. This should only just be the start. https://t.co/4lM19o9bit

The resolution highlights having oversight and independent investigations in cases of police brutality. The resolution also includes establishing civilian review boards with the authority to investigate incidents of police misconduct.
Following Floyd's death, protests erupted in cities across the country including in Boston. Many protests turned violent with police using tear gas and other "less-lethal" weapons like rubber bullets on protesters and reporters and protesters looting and vandalizing.
Curfews were set in at least 25 U.S. cities Saturday night, including many that are expected to extend through Monday; Boston is already under a 9 p.m. curfew due to the coronavirus.
Moulton also condemned President Donald Trump's calls for states and the National Guard to crack down on protests.
As a Marine veteran who was trained to disobey unlawful orders & as a Member of Congress, I am calling on the men & women of the Minnesota National Guard to ignore the president’s unlawful order to shoot civilians & rely instead on your training & oath to defend our Constitution,
