Boston Herald: Seth Moulton Hosts Syrian Refugee at State of the Union
A 9-year-old Syrian refugee who lost both of his arms and three of his siblings in a bombing raid in his home country will be a guest of U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton at tonight’s State of the Union address.
“It’s amazing, he lost both arms but he is not thinking about himself, he’s thinking about so many other Syrians who are suffering under ISIS and their regime,” Moulton told the Herald from his D.C. office.
The boy — Ahmad Alkhalaf — penned a letter to President Obama which Moulton said reads, in part, “there are many children like me, even if they did not lose their arms, they lost everything else.”
The Salem Democrat said the child puts a human face on the politically charged issue of Syrian refugees.
“Beyond all the vitriolic rhetoric in the presidential debates, these are real people, real kids like Ahmad,” Moulton said.
