U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton — alarmed by a Herald special report showing that the Boston VA benefits office bungled one in six traumatic brain injury claims — is calling for the House Veterans Affairs Committee to “fully examine” the issue, and is concerned the problem could extend nationwide.

In a letter sent yesterday to committee chairman Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), Moulton — a former Marine officer — wrote that he is “concerned that this issue is not unique to the Boston VARO (Veterans Affairs Regional Office),” citing the Herald’s report on findings by the VA’s inspector general.

“In order to fully exercise the Congress’ oversight responsibility, I believe it is in our veterans’ best interest for the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to fully examine the issues raised in this report and the VA’s progress toward remedying the deficiencies identified by the Inspector General,” Moulton wrote.

“Our veterans deserve top care in return for their service,” he stated, “and it’s our job to ensure that happens.”
