Moulton Statement on Robert Mueller's Press Conference

WASHINGTON — Today, following a press conference from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) made the following statement:

Robert Mueller volunteered to serve his country in Vietnam and under the administrations of Republicans and Democrats. He is an American patriot.

Mueller’s announcement today settles a question that has lingered since the release of his findings which is whether he thought he lacked either the evidence or the authority to indict the president on obstruction of justice. Today he made very clear he did not lack the evidence, but he did lack the authority.

No man or woman in this country is above the law. That’s why the Founders gave Congress the authority to hold the executive accountable, and even impeach the president. It is Congress’s duty to respond to the charges addressed by the Mueller Report by beginning impeachment proceedings immediately, so we can have this debate transparently before the American people. That is our Constitutional responsibility, regardless of the politics.
