Moulton Helps Deliver More Than $500,000 for Lynn Community Health Center

Lynn, Mass. – Today, Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) announced that Lynn Community Health Center was awarded $524,964 through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

These funds will be used to directly help vulnerable populations in the city of Lynn. Through this grant, Lynn Community Health Center will be able to provide medication assisted treatment for recently released incarcerated and homeless individuals.

“Over the last two decades, in Lynn, a coalition of government and social services agencies has done remarkably good work in Substance Use Disorder prevention, screening and treatment,” said Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, CEO.  “One of the last remaining pieces, to provide much needed wrap-around services to those recently incarcerated, is a blessing. Those recently incarcerated are at the highest risk of death from overdose of any group. This SAMSHA grant will allow our community members to safely rebuild their lives, preventing untold amount of pain for the families of our community.”

This grant also arrived just in time for the beginning of National Recovery Month, which started on the first of September. Mental health work has always been a high priority issue for Rep. Moulton, and mental health and substance abuse issues paired with the stigma surrounding getting treatment prevents many people from seeking help. Lynn Community Health Center is one such option that helps individuals with recovery and reintegration into society.

“Being able to help formerly incarcerated or unhoused individuals reintegrate into society as valued, productive citizens is essential to an economy and society that leaves nobody behind,” said Rep. Moulton. “The pandemic has only exacerbated mental health and substance abuse issues, and I am glad to see Lynn Community Health receive this funding to help the most vulnerable members of our community.”
