ICYMI: Rep. Seth Moulton and Admiral Bill McRaven Discuss the Future of Defense on the General and the Ambassador Podcast
WASHINGTON — Rep. Seth Moulton recently joined Admiral William McRaven on The General and the Ambassador, a podcast about diplomacy and defense from the American Academy of Diplomacy. The pair and host Ambassador Deborah McCarthy of the American Academy of Diplomacy, discussed the challenges and opportunities America will face over the course of the next decade and the important partnerships between the nation’s diplomats and the military. The General and the Ambassador regularly features leaders from the State Department and the armed services and aims to give listeners a “behind the scenes conversations between U.S. military leaders and U.S. ambassadors on how they worked in the field to advance U.S. global interests and protect the homeland.”
Rep. Seth Moulton is the Co-Chair of the House Armed Services Committee’s Future of Defense Task Force, which recently conducted a months-long review of U.S. defense assets and capabilities. The task force has issued a report with bipartisan findings and recommendations that Moulton and the task force members will turn into policy in the year ahead. Prior to his service in Congress, Moulton served four tours of duty in Iraq as a United States Marine Infantry Officer.
Admiral William McRaven is professor of national security at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin. He recently published a report with the Council on Foriegn Relations called “Innovation and National Security: Keeping our Edge.” Admiral McRaven served as an advisor to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and has served in special operations at every level including in combat in Operation Desert Storm and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Prior to his retirement from the Navy, he led the United States Special Operations Command.
