Baker backs Moulton’s RMV proposal

by Andy Metzger

ONCE SEEN AS POTENTIAL RIVALS, Congressman Seth Moulton and his North Shore neighbor Gov. Charlie Baker are rowing in the same direction on how to prevent a repeat of the bureaucratic nightmare at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Notifications about infractions Massachusetts drivers committed in other states piled up unaddressed at the registry over a period of years, and Bay State regulators didn't alert their counterparts about driving incidents that happened here. Massachusetts is not … Continue Reading

Our view: Past time for a new network at the RMV

by Editorial Board

It's a bit nutty in an age where you can tell a disembodied voice in your kitchen to order more milk from the grocery store that someone whose license is suspended for drunken driving in one state can cross a border into another state and basically wipe their record clean. As is painfully obvious now, that's exactly what was happening for years, at least in Massachusetts, where those kinds of notices from other places were left to pile up in the corner of a state office in Quincy. Congressman … Continue Reading

by Christian M. Wade

BOSTON - A long-awaited project to dredge the sand-clogged Annisquam River could be back on track, according to U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, citing a deal with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that will allow work to move forward. Moulton said his office, working with state and local officials, has secured a waiver from the Army Corps and the federal Office of Management and Budget that will allow the project to move ahead with $2 million in recently allocated state funding to plug a gap between … Continue Reading

U.S. Rep's impeachment stance challenged

by Ethan Forman

DANVERS - During a Town Hall gathering Tuesday night, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton sparred with a couple of supporters of President Donald Trump who appeared upset and indignant with the three-term Democratic congressman's outspoken pro-impeachment stance. Moulton, a Harvard-educated decorated Marine Corps Iraq War veteran, fielded various questions from constituents about climate change and the need to elect more Democrats to Congress during a standing room gathering of about 75 people at the … Continue Reading

Moulton On Impeachment: 'Politics Aside, We Need To Uphold The Law'

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) - Congressman Seth Moulton weighed in Tuesday on the whistleblower report, Democrats' impeachment inquiry, and the scandals facing President Trump. "I don't think we've ever had a more treasonous Commander-in-Chief than someone who goes out and influences foreign governments to try and get involved in his own re-election, to undermine our democracy," Moulton told WBZ NewsRadio's Karyn Regal. Moulton, who served in the Marine Corps, was troubled by comments made by a … Continue Reading

Seth Moulton introduced a new bill on Tuesday that would support the interstate sharing of driving records after a highway wreck in June claimed the lives of seven motorcyclists in New Hampshire. Moulton, while speaking in Danvers, explained that his SAFE DRIVERS Act is geared toward keeping individuals like 23-year-old Volodymyr Zhukovskyy off the road. "You know instantaneously when your son or daughter needs something because they text you," … Continue Reading

Massachusetts lawmakers frustrated with Columbia Gas after Lawrence leak

U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton said Columbia Gas should lose its license to distribute in the Bay State after a major gas leak forced the evacuation of hundreds of people in Lawrence - sparking new fears after last year's Merrimack Valley gas disaster. Moulton is one of several members of the state congressional delegation who voiced renewed frustrations with the utility company Friday after a Level 1 gas leak - the most severe - was caused by contractors who inadvertently closed a gas valve, … Continue Reading

But the Salem Democrat hailed her decision to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. "It's the right decision and it's about time," he told the Item. Despite an early morning telephone call from the president pleading his innocence, the California Democrat stuck with her decision to commence the inquiry. Moulton holds Town Meeting in Lynnfield

by Bella DiGrazia

LYNNFIELD - One month after U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton ended his failed candidacy for president, fewer than a dozen residents attended a Town Meeting he held at the Summer Street Elementary School on Saturday. The intimate setting allowed voters to ask Moulton questions, leading to discussions about climate change, his short presidential campaign and the current government leadership. One attendee asked him about Rep. Joe Kennedy's (D-Mass.) Saturday morning announcement to run against Sen. … Continue Reading

by Lisa Kashinsky and Rick Sobey

Two Bay State congressmen are vowing to probe how a nurse at the Bedford VA Medical Center could reportedly water down doses of morphine for a dying veteran who may have suffered in his final hours because of the drug-tampering. "Our veterans deserve the excellent care that they have earned by their service - and this incident, even if it's rare, is unacceptable," U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch said. "So we've got to review our protocols and make sure that we're not missing something, that we're not … Continue Reading

Mental health care is the key to keeping spec ops forces ready for the next fight

by Meghann Myers

At a time when the Pentagon is preparing itself for a clash with a well-funded and equipped military power, lawmakers are warning that support for special operations deployments should not go away, and even more investment should be made in mental health care for special operations forces as well as other troops and veterans. Special operations forces do a lot more than kick down doors, Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said Wednesday, and they'll need … Continue Reading

Director of suicide prevention organization cites lack of volunteers. Seth Moulton's failed attempted coup of the House Speaker last year, the California Democrat has named him to the powerful Conference Committee. It's their job to negotiate the House's version with the Senate's proposal for more than $700 billion in defense spending. "I was not surprised," Moulton said. "We are professionals. Our View: Small change could make a big difference in stopping suicide

by Editorial Board

When a medical emergency occurs, even with the confusion and surging adrenaline, people know just what to do: Call 911. But for people in the midst of a mental health emergency, it's not quite that simple. They, too, are in the middle of a crisis where time is of the essence - but instead of having an easy-to-remember three-digit number at the ready, they have to first look up who to call. With any luck, that search will take them to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, and they'll get … Continue Reading

State grant to fund five new Saugus firefighters

by Bridget Turcotte

The money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant program. It will allow the Saugus Fire Department to "increase firefighter presence" and decrease response time, which will allow them to better protect residents during emergencies, said Saugus Fire Chief Michael Newbury. "Maintaining … Continue Reading
