America deserves a chairman of our Intelligence Committee that we can trust. Congressman Nunes is a colleague, he’s a genuinely nice man, and that’s not something I say about everyone around here. But right now he’s charged with investigating Russia’s meddling in our elections, in our democracy, trying to fundamentally undermine our system of government.

It’s one of the most important investigations in our nation’s history. And Chairman Nunes has compromised his impartiality in that investigation by briefing President Trump — someone who is being investigated himself.

I serve on the Armed Services Committee, I have a Republican chairman, and he’s someone that I trust. America deserves that of our Intelligence chairman as well. As Russia tries to fundamentally undermine our democracy and our way of life, we have to stand up and we have to fight back. And that begins with a thorough investigation, that everyone can believe, into exactly what happened.

That’s why it’s time for Chairman Nunes to recuse himself from further investigations into Russia. It’s what our democracy requires, and it’s what the American people should demand.
