Moulton Statement on Trump Indictment in Georgia

August 15, 2023

SALEM, MA — Congressman Moulton issued the following statement on the most recent indictment of Donald Trump by the state of Georgia:

"‘I just want to find 11,780 votes’ is not a statement that should ever come out of the mouth of an elected official, let alone the President of the United States.

Free and fair elections are what separates a democracy from an autocracy. Yet Donald Trump knowingly tried to undermine the 2020 election for nothing but his own personal gain. He violated our trust by thinking that he could manipulate American votes to keep a grip on power.

The sad reality now is that the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination has been indicted four times and has dozens of charges against him. The charges laid out in Georgia and last week by the special counsel are especially serious. Read the indictments for yourself if you disagree.

The election was not rigged. Donald Trump and his band knew this and set out to steal it anyway. Now it is time for the judicial system to do its work just as it would for anyone else accused of these crimes.”
