Moulton on Escalating Military Tensions in Latin America: "Americans should not break the law to stop lawbreakers themselves"

October 24, 2025

SALEM, MA - Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement regarding House Speaker Mike Johnson's refusal to convene the House of Representatives amid escalating military tensions in Latin America. The statement comes amid news that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has ordered the deployment of an aircraft carrier to waters off Latin America.

"Speaker Johnson is complicit in helping Trump completely ignore our Constitution by keeping the House on vacation rather than doing our jobs and debating whether we should be starting another war. We all want to stop drugs that come into our country, but Americans should not break the law to stop lawbreakers themselves. It’s putting our troops in a dangerous position.

"There’s nothing that made me more proud as a U.S. Marine than upholding our values, even in the midst of a war many of us questioned or outright disagreed with.

"If someone asks the question you fear, the answer is that it’s a fair question."
