Congressman Moulton and House Armed Services Committee Democrats Demand Open Congressional Hearing on Military Action Against Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) joined all House Armed Services Committee Democrats, led by Ranking Member Adam Smith (WA-09), in demanding that the Department of Defense testify in an open hearing before Congress on the ongoing military action against Iran.
In a letter sent today to Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (AL-03), Congressman Moulton and his colleagues raised urgent concerns about the Trump Administration's lack of transparency regarding the war, including:
- The deaths of 13 U.S. service members and 290 additional wounded
- Over 1,000 civilian casualties
- Unclear and shifting strategic and operational objectives
- Uncertainty about the possible use of U.S. ground forces
- Unanswered questions about daily operational costs, equipment losses, munitions expenditures, and a reported $200 billion supplemental spending request
The Members called for a dedicated hearing on the Iran war, separate from the committee's existing posture hearing with the Commander of U.S. Central Command and budget hearing with the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arguing those forums do not provide adequate time to address the gravity of the situation.
